WHY YOUR HEAVEN LIES UNDER THE FEET OF YOUR MOTHER.?
YOUR HEAVEN LIES UNDER THE FEET OF YOUR MOTHER.
Written by :AbdulHakeem ibnAbdulRaheem
In the name of Allah, The Most Beneficent, The Most Merciful. All praise and adoration be to Almighty Allah (SWT), I seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whomsoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah Alone, and I bear witness that Muhammad (PBUH) is His slave-servant and the seal of the messengers. May the peace and blessings of Almighty Allah be upon the noble Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his household, his companions, and those who follow his path till the day of Akhirah, Amin!
Almighty Allah (SWT) commanded us to worship none except Him Alone, and adhere strictly to the teachings of His Prophet (PBUH), to be dutiful to our parents, kind to our neighbor, our kin and kith and to help the poor, treat the orphans well, remember the wayfarer and those whom our right hand possess.
BE KIND TO THE PARENTS
Islam teaches a good moral upon everything, doing good to our parents is very essential in the life of a Muslim. The number one thing as a Muslim is your belief (In oneness of Almighty Allah (SWT) and the message of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)) while it precedes by ‘doing good’ and the number one thing in doing good is to be dutiful to one’s parents as stated in the Qur’an.
And your Lord has commanded you that you shall not serve (any) but Him and goodness to your parents. If either both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so as much) ‘Ugly’ nor chide them and speak to them a generous word. *And make yourself submissive gentle to them with compassion, and say: O my Lord! Have compassion on them, as they brought me up (when I was) little. Q17:23-24
This is not only stated in this verse but many verses in the Holy Qur’an to show the importance and the beauty of doing good to the parents.
And we have enjoined man in respect of his parents – his mother bears him with hardship upon hardship and his weaning takes two years- Saying: Be grateful to Me and to both your parents; to Me is the eventual coming. Q31:14
Numerous hadiths also related by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) regarding doing good to one’s parents, and the evil of not doing well to one’s parents, among few is hadith of Abu Huraira (RA) who reported that Allah’s Apostle (PBUH) as saying; Let him humble into dust; Let him humble into dust; Let him humble into dust. It was said; Allah’s Messenger, who is he? He said; He who sees either of his parents during their old age or he sees both of them, but he doesn’t enter Jannah (Paradise), Muslim.
This shows that it is the blessing of Almighty Allah (SWT) to have old age parent’s for they will serve as his path to Jannah. If one did not have old age parents, doesn’t mean one should be careless for one’s parents, if one of the two parents is not alive, doesn’t mean you should abandon and suffer the one that remains. Some are so wicked to the extent that they forget to care for their parent while they were alive but set party, buy expensive casket, rents ambulance, pay the undertakers, cooked food and prepare full party for the dead mother or father they didn’t care for while alive. Learn where to spend your money in the Qur’an.
They ask you (O Muhammad) as to what they should spend, say: Whatever wealth you spend, it is for the parents and the near kin and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer and whatever good you do, Allah surely knows it. Q2:215
For the fact that there is no how you spend on them and Allah (SWT) will not know and reward you. Do not give them money with arguments or shout at them as it can cause your deed void. Fear Allah (SWT) and do not spoil your (good) deeds.
YOUR MOTHER BUY BLESSINGS FOR YOU FROM YOUR FATHER
As it was reported by Yazidibn Abu Habib that Na’im, the freed slave of Umm Salama, reported to him that ‘Abdullah ibnAmribn ‘As said: there came to Allah’s Apostle (PBUH) a person and said I owe allegiance to you for migration and Jihad seeking reward only from Allah. He (PBUH) said: Is one from amongst your parents living? He said: Yes, of course, both are living. He (PBUH) further asked: Do you want to seek reward from Allah? He said: Yes. Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said: Go back to your parents and accord them benevolent treatment, Muslim.
There is a hadiths which Hajj and Humrah covered by doing well to one’s parents at especially the mother as this below hadith in narration of Abu Huraira (RA): A man came to Allah’s Apostles (PBUH) and said ‘O Allah’s Apostles! Who is more entitled to be treated with the best companionship by me? The Prophet said: ‘Your mother’, Theman said, ‘who next?’ The Prophet said, ‘Your mother’, The man further said, ‘who is next?’ The Prophet said, ‘Your mother’: The man asked for the forth time, ‘who is next?, The Prophet said, ‘Your father’, Muslim.
This shows doing good to mother is very vital as Qur’an says:
And we have enjoined on man doing of good to his parents; with trouble did his mother bear him and with trouble did she bring forth; and bearing of him and the weaning of him was thirty months; until when he attains his maturity and reaches forty years, he says: My Lord! grant me that I may give thanks for Thy favour which Thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may do good which my offspring; surely I turn to Thee, and surely I am if those who submit. Q 46:15
The above verse shows a Muslim (who submits to the total will of Almighty Allah) must take care of his parents especially mother who carried him inside womb for nine months and breastfeed him for two years, cares for him every time as what you do is what you take and he who shows care to his parents needs not to grieve nor fear as it (doing good to the parents) will wipe out the evil for him. Qur’an stated:
These are they from whom We accept the best of what they have done and pass over their evil deeds, among the dwellers of the garden; the promise of truth which they were promised. Q 46:16
A group of people paid a visit to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and said; ‘O Messenger of Allah, we have seen such people who prostrated before each other’. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) answered, ‘If at all I could permit prostration before anyone except Allah, the creator, I would have ordered the wives to prostrate for their husbands.
This hadith introduced in to this topic as Allah’s mercy of wife is with husband and the child’s is with both, especially mother as authentic hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: Your heavens lies under the feet of your mother, Ahmad, Nasai.
DOING GOOD TO ONE’S PARENT’ FRIEND
Islam is truly a religion of peace, he enjoins on us to be ourselves companion and joins the ties of kinship and friendship. There are responsibilities of a child upon his mother or father’s friend not only when they were alive but also after their depature to the next life, as the hadith below shows the weight of doing well to one’s family friend.
Ibn Dinar reported that a desert Arab met Abdullah ibn Umar on his way to Mecca. Abdullah greeted him and mounted him upon the donkey on which he had been riding and gave him the Turban that he had on his head. Ibn dinar (further) reported: we saidto him (Abdullah ibn Umar); May Allah do good to you, these are desert Arabs and they are satisfied even with mearge (things). Thereupon Abdullah said: His father was loved dearly by Umar ibnKhattab and I heard Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) as saying: the finest act of goodness to the loved ones of his father after his death and the father of this person was a friend of Umar.
WHEN THE PARENTS ARE DEAD
The preceding hadith of Abdullah ibn Umar teaches the way we act towards the friend of one’s parents as your good deeds to those people will give priority and prayer to the dead parents. You don’t take their beloved things for granted or spoiling their relationship with people after their demise. It’s much important to join the ties of kinship between the father side and mother side even after their decease.
Abu Usaidsaidi said: we were once sitting with messenger of Allah (PBUH) when a man from the tribe of Salmah came and said to him, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Do my parents have right over me even after they have died? And Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, ‘Yes! You must pray to Allah to bless them with His Forgiveness and Mercy, fulfill the promises they made to anyone and respect their relations and their friends’, Abu Dawud, IbnMajah.
WHEN PARENTS ARE NON-MUSLIMS
Oneness of Allah (SWT) first, associate or worship none beside Him, He is the only one worthy of worship and nobody else. Abdullah ibnAmr related that the messanger of Allah said: The major sins are; To believe that Allah has partners, To disobey one’s parent, To commit murder, To bear false witness, Bukhari, Muslim. And Qur’an says:
And serve Allah and do not associate anything with Him and be good to the parents and to the near kin and the orphans and the needy the neighbour of (your) kin and the alien neighbour in a journey and the wayfarer and those whom your right hands possess; surely Allah doesn’t love him, who is proud, boastful. Q 4:36
One can ONLY disagree with his parents on worshipping or associating anything with Almighty Allah (SWT), except that, taking care of your parents is yet important even if they are non-Muslims as it is narrated by Asmabint Abu bakr that during the treaty of Hudaibiyah, her mother, who was then pagan came to see her from Mekkah. Asma informed the messenger of Allah (PBUH) of her arrival and also that she needed help. He said: Be good to your mother, Bulhari, Muslim.
THE PARENTS ABANDONED YOU
Almighty Allah (SWT), The One who has plans for everyone based on their needs. He set forth as He will; He brings out dead out of living and living out of dead. He knows what is best for His slave as some will stay with their parents and succeed and some stay out and succeed. He granted you what He will as He will, He owns you and your wealth and He knows the best and Allah does not love him, who is proud, boastful.
IF YOU'VE BEEN DOING BAD TO YOUR PATENTS BEFORE BUT WISH TO CHANGE
Allah says in the Qur'an that,
I said to them'Ask for forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft Forgiving. Q71:10
Return to Allah (SWT) and forsake that in which you are indulged (doing bad,or not doing good to your parents), and turn to Him in repentance and total submission to His will; for whosoever turns to Him in repentance, He will forgive you regardless of how far you are in desbelief and polytheism obsessed.
BENEFITS OF DOING GOOD TO THE PARENTS
1. Al Jannah
2. Wealth in this world\
3. Istijabah
4. Peace of mind
5. Same in return from your children.
CONCLUSION
‘Abdullaahibn ‘Umar reported that the Messenger (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
Three men of a people before you, were on a journey when they were overtaken by a storm and therefore they took shelter in a cave. A rock slipped down from the mountain and blocked the exit from cave.
One of them said:
"The only way for deliverance left is to beseech Allah in the name of some virtuous deed."
Thereupon one of them supplicated,
"O Lord, my parents were very old, and I used to offer them their nightly drink of milk before my children and the other members of the family. One day I went astray far away in search of green trees and could return only after my parent had gone to sleep. When I had milked the animals and brought their nightly drink to them. They were fast asleep, but I did not like to disturb them, nor would give any part of the milk to my children and other members of the family till after my parents had their drink. Thus, with the vessel in hand, I awaited their awakening till the flush of dawn, while the children cried out of hunger at my feet. When they woke up, they had their drink. O Lord, if I did this thing seeking only your pleasure, then do relieve us of the distress wrought upon us by this rock."
Thereupon, the rock moved a little but not enough to let them pass out.
Then the second man supplicated:
"O Lord, I had a cousin that I loved more passionately than any man could love a woman. I tried to seduce her but she would refuse, till in a season of great hardship due to famine, she approached me (for help) and I gave her one hundred and twenty Dinars on the condition that she would have sexual intercourse with me. She agreed, and when we got together and I was just going to have intercourse with her, she pleaded, 'Fear Allah, and do not break the seal unlawfully', whereupon I moved away from her, despite the fact that I desired her most passionately; and I let her keep the money I had given her. O Lord, if I did this thing seeking only your pleasure, then do move the distress in which we find ourselves."
Again the rock moved a little but not enough to let them pass out.
Then the third supplicated:
"O Lord, I hired some labourers and paid them their dues, but one of them left leaving behind what was due to him. I invested it in business and the business prospered greatly.
After a while, the labourer came back and said: 'O servant of Allah, hand over to me my wages.' I said to him: 'All that you see is yours; camels, cattle, goats and slaves." He said: 'Don't play joke with me, O servant of Allah.' I assured him: 'I am not joking.' So he took all of it sparing nothing. O Lord, if I did this seeking only for your pleasure, do relieve us of our distress."
The rock then moved away, and all the three came out of the cave safe and sound.
The first man served as lesson in this topic, May Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive us and grants us understanding and ease in doing His will.
